ArcheAge Unchained

When the first ArcheAge was released, it was a huge chapter for COTP.  The initial game hype was off the charts, and we had a lot of fun at first... Unfortunately they had some pretty big missteps with the release schedule and some content that was not released as planned (or poorly handled).  A lot of the issues with the game can be attributed to conflicts between the original Korean developer XL Games and the USA publisher Trion Worlds.  Over time the game went F2P and quickly became a Pay2Win game.  Let's just say that the community was unhappy with the direction of the game. 
Enter GamIgo Games!  Last year Gamigo Games purchased Trion Worlds and acquired the ownership rights of ArcheAge.  As a direct result of all the community backlash, they decided to release a completely different version of the game.  By popular demand, ArcheAge Unchained is going to be a completely separate game on its own, and they are eliminating the big P2W problems.  ArcheAge Unchained is being released on October 15th, and it will be a Buy 2 Play model.  You pay the initial game cost up front, and after that there will be no subscriptions or "Premium monthly costs".  The only items for sale in the "cash shop" will be 100% cosmetic, and anything game impacting from the original ArcheAge game was removed.  For example, the game was due to come out the last weekend in September, but Gamigo Games decided to delay the game for more PTS testing.  The big change they were working on was to make all cosmetic items Bound on Pickup / Purchase.  They wanted to avoid anyone buying cosmetic items for RL money and then selling them on the in-game marketplace to earn gold.  Many people in the community saw this as being slightly Pay 2 Win, so it was removed from the game!

Astellia Launching September 28th.

Astellia  is launching officially on September 27, but those who have  pre-ordered the game can start to filter into the game world as early as this afternoon. Players who purchased a Legendary Pack can begin their journey this afternoon, with the game world opening up to everyone through the course of the next seven days.

Hello, All.

 

I’m seeking advice on how to play a Tank. As I understand the role of the Tank, it’s his job to attract the attention of enemies so the DPS players can deal their damage. To do this job well, I think the Tank should have the following: 1) good armor to protect against hits, 2) decent hit points to survive hits, and 3) ability to attract the attention of enemies.

 

I’ve reviewed ESO skills and I’ve made a list of skills I think would benefit and I’d like feedback on this list and recommendations for others to consider. Currently, I am playing a Redguard Templar. I’ve been specializing in one-handed and shield weapon line.

 

SKILLS for the Tank

   Restoring Light Options

Spear Wall – to increase amount of damage Blocked.

Reflective Light – to snare nearby enemies so they cannot rush off to attack healer or anyone else.

Restoring Aura skills – to increase amount of health and stamina regeneration.

 

  Fighters Guild

Trap Beast – because it immobilizes undead and daedra enemies.

 

  Mages Guild

Ice Comet – because it snares enemies in the impact area.

 

  Undaunted

Inner Beast – forces enemy to attack you.

 

  Heavy Armor

Immovable – increases armor and spell resistance which will help the Tank survive enemy attacks.

Rapid Mending – to increase healing received if wearing heavy armor

 

   One-Handed Weapon and Shield

Low Slash line – snares enemies to keep them from rushing off to attack other players.

Fortress – reduce the cost for blocking.

Shield Charge – to get to enemy quickly.

Ransack line – Taunts enemy for 15 seconds

 

 

A few questions.

  1. In a fight with level boss, should the Tank attempt to intercept all the smaller enemies with abilities that snare or taunt?
  2. Should a Tank save his Magicka and Stamina for abilities that snare or taunt and not worry about damage?
  3. Should the Tank attempt to move out of range of boss’s area attacks?

You're asking about tanking with a Templar build. I don't play Temps but I can answer the tanking questions in general...

 

Tanking is about two things: Keeping MOST of the mobs off your teammates and absorbing or deflecting damage through skills, abilities, Crowd Control, dodging and blocking. There are 2 reliable taunts in the game which you mentioned above:

Ransack line –  from One handed and Shield. Stamina based melee range.

Inner Fire from Undaunted. Ranged Magicka based

 

At times, I have both on my skill bar but that is usually for very specific boss fights. In general, I find the Inner Fire to be less reliable and it's easier to miss with it and hit a different mob. Which works better for you may depend on your other skills and build preferences. I tend to do a balanced stamina/magicka build so I can and will use either or both. 

 

Outside of a taunt, I want a few skills that will help me survive. Some kind of self-heal to supplement what the healer is sending my way and/or an area buff or debuff the enemy. I also have and use a Restoration staff on my second bar. These heals stack so if you healer need heals or you need to augment your healing it's a quick weapons switch away.

 

DPS: You will add damage to the target with just your light attacks. Keep those going all the time. How you compliment that depends on your build and the kind of fighting your having to do. I tend to put damage skills on my skill bar that are going to enhance my job of surviving over pure dps or that does dps but also has some other effect. Example, my DK has a cone flame attack that debuffs armor and snares the targets. That's a great ability to help the mobs die faster, I do DPS and players can kite easier if needed.

 

1) IMO, no. You wont have the Sta/Mag to do it all over time. Few players will die from just a few hits. If they are, it means they are not blocking or dodging out of the AOEs. You can't do it all. We are talking 6-10 mob pulls in dungeons

2) You are always regening S&M so I would conserve most for that but use something so they are never just at max.

3) Yes. You really have to. Most of those big windup attacks will take out most of (if not outright kill you) your life. Turn and sprint or dodge out.
