Wolcen - Full Release!

Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is going into full release on Feb 13th, 2020!  I've been following this ARPG since it was first Kickstarted way back in 2015.  I've played it once or twice throughout the development process... Some Alpha, some Beta.  Overall it has come along very nicely, and I have high hopes for the future of this game.  This game has been discussed as once of the top games that will be pit against Diablo IV for the next generation of ARPG's on the market.  I know Cecil and I will be playing for sure.  Come join us in-game and on Discord!

Covenant Football League - Champion Crowned.

Chard's Goat Herders crowned Covenant Football League Champion for the 2019 season!
Trailing 140.22 to 139.74, Chard's Goat Herders staged a comeback and rallied back to beat Irok's Rokkets in the championship game with a final score of 152.36 to 140.22.  Chard's Goat Herders finished the season with a record of 11-5, while Irok's Rokkets ended the campaign at 13-3.

Game Modes:

Cross Platform Sandbox MMO 

Craft, Build, Siege, Destroy, Capture, Kill.

 

While the graphics are nothing to write home about they are pleasing and the trade off is you can play from a cell phone or ipad. while the PC experience is the best the ability to play while in a waiting room or long car trip seems fantastic. So Keep in mind all the controls are minimalistic and that is so it can work with touch screen.

 

Albion online is a top down game ala Ultima Online. The graphics are pleasant enough and the controls are easy to master.

Here I am, this is my house that I built next to my farms. You need farms to feed livestock or cook for yourself. You need meals to feed your workers if you own any refineries or crafting buildings. The items in the house provide my character buffs. You can share houses with others and it is ideal for like minded individuals to share a home. IE. if you are mage you want to live with other mages as the items you place in the home will provide buffs to mage types. 

 

I look like a mage because I am a mage. You only need one character in Albion as you can master all the skills but you can only equip and use skills based on what you are wearing.

So I am currently wearing an arcane staff that gives me an arcane shot, massive single target direct damage, and arcane blast, small area of effect damage. I also have a tome equipped that allows me a small damage spell but interupts enemy spellcasting. The light cloth armor gives me a magical shield barrier, an invulnerablitliy shield with mana regen and sprint. Crafters can custom craft different abilities on to items so the benefit of crafting is basically creating builds. 

 

If I want to be a healer I just swap out to my healing branch there and i will then change my two staff abilities from the arcane damage to heals. 

 

early on it is easy to swap between multiple mage weaposn but I would have to go far back in tiers to switch from a magic staff to say a bow and train up archery. 

 

In Albion everything is broken up into tiers. Tier 1 and 2 are like training tiers and really easy and cheap to aquire. You can access the higher tiers by building or buying better tools, so for example a tier 1 axe you have access to tier 1 and tier 2 resources. When you gather the tier 2 resources you can then craft a tier 2 axe which lets you harvest tier 3 resources. i am not sure how many tiers there are but I have seen up to 6. Below is a wood example up to tier 3. Once you start crafting with tier 3 resources things start to cost silver as well as the materials. All refining and crafting stations are owned by players in the game and different players will charge different amounts so you have to find the best deal or build your own. You will spend days trying to build all of them so it is best to specialize.

That brings me to the skills. If you equip an axe and go harvest wood, you will unlock the harvest tree, then it tells you to harvest tier two resources and eventually you unlock Specific resource harvesting, by unlocking that it allows you to use the tools required to harvest the higher tiers. Int he below example, Yellow is the combat branch, blue is the gathering branch, and green is the crafting branch. There is a light yellow as well which is farming / animal breeding wtih cooking and alchemy (seems odd that is not with crafting but it is seperate)

Combat works much the same way. you wear the equipment that is what you are and as you kill things you gain fame that unlocks access to the higher tier weapons and armors. The first combat branch is Staff, Sword, Bow. If you pick staff you then unlock, fire staff, ice staff, arcane staff, druid staff, warlock staff, ect.. you then specialize in one of those or multiples, it is just how much time do you want to spend? focus on one and master it or split between two and be able to swap out inbetween fights if needed to fill different roles. From what I have gathered there are healers, dps single target, dps area, crowd control, buffers, debuffers, ect.. Everything a main mmo has you can build a class for. You can even mix and match, if I wanted to wear  heavy armor and get the bonuses and abilities for heavy with a mage heal staff i could. But I have to train heavy armor on the melee combat tree and heal staff on the mage tree and that is going to take a lot longer than light armor and staffs found both on the mage tree. 
 

 

so why play this game? 

 

Well if you are like me and are competative this offers a great guild vs guild and open PvP game, the PvE area only goes up to tier 4 or so. if you want any higher gear or resources than that you MUST venture into the PvP zones which is most of the map. Out there guild are fighting over territory and if you are killed everything you are wearing and that is in your inventory is dropped on the ground. 

 

Also the markets are all local, so what is for sale in one city no the auction house is different than the city two zones over, this can create trade routes like in EVE where you can buy low and sell high or meet and fill demands. Since people are constantly dying there are large demands for crafting especially in the PvP zones.

How is the land/housing? Is it like Archeage where plots are limited? Is it in a PVP area or a safe area? If in a pvp area can it be destroyed?

 

You've definitely got my interest up for this with some of what you've said.

 

a pretty lengthy discussion on the potential pay to win aspects of albion. Worth a skim if you hae interest in this game.

So housing is interesting, everyone can get a private island rent free which I recommend putting your home on.

 

there are plots for rent out in both PvE and PvP areas, they are limited in #, the ticker here is you want to build your business on those plots. as people use your facilities to craft or refine resources you earn money. I don't know too much about the PvP but I do know that guilds can build in a terriotry they control, if they lose it the takers get to control the buildings. Buildings can be destroyed but I am not sure how easy or hard it is.

I played the last week of the summer alpha after returning from a 3 week holiday. The game was enjoyable and more fun than the previous alpha.

 

While I was mostly in the green zone, I did go on a few adventures through yellow and red up into the black zone.

 

The dungeon content was generally vanilla with only a handful of map layouts (but one in the black zone was unique) and the blue group dungeons were challenging.

 

Silver seemed to be easy to come by but also easy to spend once you got to T4+ gear which costs a fair bit to repair.

 

The crafting system was grindy and simple enough to get into, with some randomness sprinkled in for a chance of better gear. Collect => Refine => Build.

 

The economics were skewed in alpha, but there is fair potential to use economics to influence and impact other entities.

 

There were a lot of little touches that felt well though through and I appreciated the stability of the servers.

 

I really enjoyed the combat mechanics which were initially simplistic with room to grow for tactics and skill in party management. The game was very gear dependent but the power curve is being reduced overall for PVP along with a whole heap of other changes that came from feedback and insights from the alpha.

 

All-in-all, I am waiting for beta and hope to enjoy more time in Albion.

Albions movement mechanics will likely keep me from playing unfortunatley. The constant left mouse clicking to move really does a number on my hand/wrist. I purchased 2  Legendary accounts, I had hoped to play Albion with my son but he checked it out and was not interested. So, I have one game key if anyone would like to try it out, send me a pm.

you can also just hold the left mouse button in in front of you where you want to go and it will keep moving. Still not the best but better then constantly clicking.

 I got low lvl founders pack last night so far not sure how i like it. It does somewhat remind me of UO though as movement was like that in it to as well as perspective you are placed in is alot like uo as well. As are some other things I think. Haven't got far yet just in starter zone only played an hour or so tops so far got t2 and got bow but i am thinking i may go back to sword board for now to open up that tier to see what weapons in it are like. I know should pick one and stick with it but beta is time to experiment so that is what i am going to do. Still also playing aa though so not sure how much i will even play this. Was hoping nanu would play as well but doubt he will not that we know about the click to move etc.

 If we have a guild in game let me know and maybe i will join well i will if I decide to play but for beta doesn't really matter i guess. But i will if we have one anyway.
