I hope they enjoyed the challenge of 5 armored people to one scantly clad warrior with a torch. I respawned even further away. I ended up on the island in the far south east of the map, right there in the bottom left corner. Nice island, with lots of trees. My first attempt to get to the village I ran into one guy who decided my starter robes and tree branches were worth my life. You could try the /suicide command and see if you spawn closer.
