ATLAS: Present and Future

We have been at it since day one, that ugly and...well, let's just stick with ugly...launch. Even through the lag muck and server instability, you could read the stars and see the potential.  Right off the bat it was only for the tough, and we barreled through the glitchy log-ins, the shaky starter zones and the wretched "lawless" starting areas and found our way to the rafts.  Some were able to get to our island after 3-4 hours of learning how to tack, zig zag and fight through server borders and with a full stack of human hides, and then some were finally rescued after what seemed like days of being eaten alive by scorpions and crocodiles, only to quickly get used to dying to the cold, the wolves, the alpha horses, the water, the sharks and each other's general noob mistakes.
Yes, with the known developer, we did try to ARK it, or Dark and Light it...hell, we've even tried to Life is Feudal this one....and Atlas is just NOT those games.  Some visuals and sounds are there, but the depth and options and functionality is just SO much more.  What really took the game from just another ARK expansion to, the potential mmo of the decade, was getting out on our first schooner, the SS Skjoldr (video below).  The experience was entirely PvE, but when you have 13 people packed on to a single vessel and the guys repairing the ship are as vital as the helmsman steering and the deckhands manning the sails, it became something I haven't seen in a game since our friday night flights on the Decimator back in SWG.
We have had just a blast learning the game and surviving our island and our neighbors over the past couple weeks.  Though it may appear as if we are well off enough, growing from 30 actives day one, to more than double that now, we absolutely could use more folks interested in living the Atlas life.  Whether you are interested in navigating the high seas, captaining a brigand, farming the tundra, mucking through politics, taming elephants or exploring the massive (30-40 hours of sailing from one end to the other) world, it is all here and we have many members willing to help you get started.
Here is a few screencaps and videos to give you an idea of what we have been up to:

Xalt defeats Elric for 2018 Fantasy Football Crown

Xalt's Zappers smirk at expectations, knock off Elric's Arksters in 171.07-127.47 rout

Both teams exceeded their projected point totals, but it was Xalt's Zappers who got the victory, cruising to a 171.07-127.47 win over Elric's Arksters. Elric's Arksters earned a 3.86-point lead on Saturday behind Joey Bosa (2.18 points) and Mike Williams (1.68), but Xalt's Zappers held the lead the rest of the way. They were led by Matt Ryan (25.46 points) and Damien Williams (22.53). Ben Roethlisberger (42.22 points) and T.Y. Hilton (19.4) led the charge for Elric's Arksters in the loss. This marks the second time this season Xalt's Zappers have beaten Elric's Arksters, after winning 118.28-117.7 in their last matchup. Xalt's Zappers end the season at 12-4, while Elric's Arksters finish the campaign at 9-7.

Matchup Highlights

Sunday Early    There were players with standout moments on both teams early Sunday, after which Xalt's Zappers owned a 125.41-53.13 lead. Matt Ryan had a 75-yard touchdown pass and a 44-yard touchdown pass for Xalt's Zappers, while David Njoku had a 66-yard catch. T.Y. Hilton made the highlight reel for Elric's Arksters with a 55-yard catch.

Sunday Night    Harrison Butker had a 54-yard field goal for Elric's Arksters, who trailed 171.07-118.27 after Sunday Night Football.

Kenshi 1.0 Released

It is generally a rarity that finds a single player game a feature of CotP articles, however, over recent months this game has entered my personal top five games of all-time and has passed my hourly steam totals for Mount & Blade, Fallout 4 and Skyrim in the process.  What the....yeah, I know.
So many titles over the years have claimed that it allows its players to "win" the game "their way" in an "open sandbox" environment.  Well, we cannot get the time back that we spent realizing that those developers were still significantly limited in the scope of what any individual's personal definition of in-game "freedom" actually means.  For me, M&B and SWG came close.  Unfortunately, both those games (or their EMU reboot) are either approaching or have surpassed the ten year mark of their seemingly eternal impending latest release. Enter Kenshi.
Freedom is a fun word in Kenshi...yes, you have the freedom to stay solo, group up with a squad, make a vegetable farm, join a faction, enslave a faction, slay the champion, be the richest hermit, recruit an army of robots or build the great city....blah blah, boring.  Now, the freedom to fail in the most unique form possible...that is the true gem in this game.  I will give you just the one example:
My squad is epic, I will tame the badlands and establish a civilized trading outpost...plan = awesome.  Headed for the abandoned fishing outpost.  Acid rain, not fun...put up tent, survived.  Reached fishing village, it is not a fishing village.  Really freaky "skin" people pour out of all the village buildings.  We put up a good fight but were overwhelmed.  One by one, my squad members were....stolen.  Knocked out, picked up and taken to some of the village huts.  What is going on here?  Then the screams.  Agonizing screams from my captured squad members.  No idea.  I am the last one to go down.  KO'd, picked up, taken to a nearby hut....
I died from blood loss.....after I was put into a grinder that peeled my skin off.

WHAT IS KENSHI?
Kenshi is a single player sandbox PC game set in a vast and atmospheric ‘Sword-Punk’ style open world. With a mix of RPG elements, squad-based control and city-building features, gameplay is completely free-roaming and open: enjoy the freedom and potential to do whatever you want.
Set in an unrelenting world of bloodthirsty cannibals, starving bandits, brutal slavers and wild beasts, survival alone is a grueling struggle… You are not the chosen one. You’re not great and powerful. You don’t have more ‘hitpoints’ than everyone else. You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.
Character Customization
Edit your characters, build up their strengths and watch them endure and grow. Train Your Skills in Robotics, Thievery, Engineering, Medicine, Weapon Smithing and more!
Squad-Based Control
Play with one character or control a whole team; an army, even. Combat is Real-Time Strategy style with a choice of ranged and melee fighting styles
Build Your Base
Create and run your own city, manage an empire or simply wander the lands as a lone drifter. Research upgrades such as industry tech, weaponry crafting and trade goods
Wounds Affect Gameplay
Complex medical system where injured characters limp, crawl, bleed to death or pass out from starvation. Stem blood loss to avoid predators and replace lost limbs with robotic prosthetics
Open-ended Gameplay
An original sandbox world. Lay siege as a warlord or make your riches as a trader… There are endless game style possibilities and the world will never stop moving
Train hard
There is no level-scaling, the world does not level up along with you. At the start of the game almost everyone will be stronger than you and you’ll have to use your cunning to survive
Survive
Escape capture from deadly slavers & cannibal prisons, rescue your squad mates from grisly death and get them all home alive
Start A Faction
Keep to yourself, form an alliance or oppose other factions and territories of the world… good or bad

Drayvn ARK cluster updated with Extinction

The ARK: Extinction map has been added to Drayvn's Server Cluster.
The Goal:
Link multiple maps on one server so that players can truly enjoy everything the game offers. You can live on the Island and still explore the dungeons on Extinction while using the dragon you got from scorched and the spelunking tools you got from Aberration.
Note: This is a private server cluster created by Drayvn and is open to COTP members who are able to conduct themselves in a mature manner.
Note II:  These servers are not modded in order to provide some difficulty to those who can handle it.
Maps currently in cluster:

    What tier is everyone

I went with the high mayor tier, because I had a feeling it would be not as fun for me going any higher.
  3. We are officially a chapter now! I know some of you have already been involved in the community, and may have joined certain groups and intend to play with them as I have, but I have been working to find a home for CotP in Elyria and that home is the Duchy of Cremoria (https://chroniclesofelyria.com/forum/topic/16360/NAE-Duchy-of-Cremoria to learn more)(https://discord.gg/NQJ85md)! It is led by Duke Cyneric Torrin, whom you may have seen post on these forums, and I am a mayor and officer within this duchy. He has agreed to welcome any CotP members that wish to land within his duchy, but that also means following his rules, in addition to our own charter. There are two main things to know in that regard: 1. Cremoria's rules are don't be a dick and follow opsec, be respectful it's a safe space and the community of Cremoria is open to all. This is not the place to shame others for any reason. 2. If you are a mayor or count you are expected to write a recruitment post, be engaged in the CoE community and to do your best to actively recruit for your town or county. Support will be provided to you, but the onus is on you to do the work. And my own requirement is: given the sensitive nature of politics and information in a sandbox such as this, you must be a member of this duchy and no other political entities outside of this duchy in order to be a member of this chapter. If you are already with another organization, or wish to play with another before or after joining the chapter, just let me know and we'll see if anything can be worked out. For anyone interested in joining us, join the discord above and apply to join the group on this forum. For anyone interested in learning more, feel free to join the discord and ask around (the duke is very helpful and knows a lot about this game) or dm me and I'll do what I can to help. I hope to see you all in Elyria!
  4. Sure! What are you looking for? Info on what's going on in the coe community? If so I have a thread up with some good info. Are you looking for more info on the game? I find the best way is to start reading design journals, as it's a little of info to learn and digest.
  5. Hey guys, can I get some info about everything that is going on?
  6. Kero

    What tier is everyone

My main concern is that we'll be very much spread out across the map then. According to their developer journal #18 from mid-2017 the minimum requirements for the various settlement sizes are these: Hamlet: 3 Parcels; 10 people; Well Village: 9 Parcels; 25 people; Tavern Town: 25 parcels; 75 people; Town Hall City: 49 parcels; 150 people; Courthouse Capital: 81 parcels; 250 people; Monument In the same place, they listed the following possible combinations (there are many others) for a county: 4 towns and 4 villages 1 city, 2 towns, 2 villages, and 5 hamlets In reality, how many players (even if that "people" number up there might well include a significant number of npcs, I'd assume at least 25% of those are meant to be players) are we going to get? It's going to make for some very, very empty feeling settlements. Yes, ideally the game and player population is going to grow to a point where those numbers might be possible, but at the start, there's barely going to be more than three or four players trying to build each town, spread across a considerable geografical area, if each count and mayor is going to try to build their's. And I think that's a bad thing, because people who feel alone are much more likely to lose interest and quit. I honestly feel that the best approach if we want to have a united CotP-presence as a guild would be to really focus on building one settlement up to town or better level first and concentrate our people there, with some small outlying hamlets nearby as desired. I understand that that means that not everyone who bought in at count level is going to have their own developed county seat, which is why I volunteered to leave my county undeveloped as "wilderness" initially, to possibly be expanded into later. Sadly, Duke Cyneric didn't like the idea of an empty "wilderness" county too much, but he still might find that there's not enough people to fill all the room at the start anyway.
  7. Fierywind

    What tier is everyone

Agreed, all in one duchy makes the most sense and is what we're going to be doing.
  8. Oort

    What tier is everyone

All in one duchy is more realistic, as counties seem to have very limited mayor slots. I doubt we have 24 counts and 2-6 mayors per in this group, but we could easily have more than six mayors.
  9. Icesin

    Location for CoE

Yes, I meant I will not be going to the church. Aka Blackheart
  10. Fierywind

    Location for CoE

Not sure what you mean, but anyone is free to not play with our chapter, it just means no invite to the group forum when that's made.
  11. Icesin

    Location for CoE

No need. I know who he is and have spoken to him . Good choice. I left his discord some time ago. I needed to do some research and needed some freedom to do it. I am not ready to return yet as I am not done with my research . And have others to answer to when my choice comes. You can tell him Icesin is not joining the church. I don't give a Jeepers who moves there!
  12. Kero

Most likely the Duchy of Cremoria. Here's the Discord: https://discord.gg/uyqBDW

What Duchy are you going in under?
  14. Kero

    What tier is everyone

I have pledged at the count level during the kickstarter, without fully understanding what I was getting :). Since I have serious doubts about having the irl time to do the recruiting and maintenance required to run a successful county, I'm thinking about selling or trading my count title and the asociated benefits off. I'd suggest we wait until after we get our act together as a chapter and have an idea of how we want to set up (honestly, I feel it would probably make the most sense to have us all in one county, whereas we have at least three members pledged at the count level). But anyway, before you buy count level access from the store, you can probably get it cheaper from me ;).
  15. Fierywind

    What tier is everyone

I expect packages to drop soon, but anyone thinking of upgrading, please get with me first.
  16. Oort

    What tier is everyone

Mayor, thinking of upgrading to Count. Will know more when the prices come out.
  17. Fierywind

    Location for CoE

The decision has been made. We have a sizable CotP presence in Kairos already, and I am a member of leadership. I have recently been offered the chapter lead position, and am just waiting on this to be converted formally to a chapter to start making some announcements.
  18. Icesin

    Location for CoE

Both Kairos and Alesia are good Kingdoms. I would learn much more about each. What plans you have for the game and how you would fit in each. For example some don't want any pvp and to keep peace. IT would be best if you can stick together in one duchy. The issue I have is, I want some pvp, and I want my city to be safe. SO I will only stick it in the county and duchy of people I trust. I also have to find a Mayor as I never had any intentions of owning a city.
  19. This is a busy time for the CoE community, as we've just concluded a major event (map voting) and are moving into several big events through the end of the year and the start of next! First, the map voting conclusion: the map for the NA-E server will be this: This map was voted upon by those that intend on playing on the NA-E server! This is the first time that players have decided on their own map to play on, rather than being handed one. The next process that has just started as of today is Server Selection - once an account is made, or if you already have an account, you now have an option on the account management screen that allows you to commit to a server you wish to play on. This is not a process that necessarily needs to be completed right now for any non-titled (below a mayor) players, but it DOES need to be completed by titled players before Domain Selection. Everyone please choose NA-E as that will be the server our chapter plays on! That brings us to the big event that is coming up, Domain Selection. Details need to be ironed out, but it is expected right after the holidays, so early January at the latest. This will be when those players with titles will be able to select land. This is one of the most important pre-release processes, so I will keep everyone posted as we get more information.
  20. I've been trying to engage with cotp leadership about this, but I've got quite a few cotp with me on the NA-E server. Server selection is supposed to last I believe 30 days, so there's some time, but a decision does need to be made
  21. Server selection starts on Monday, 11/19. It's time to decide on that. I basically stopped paying attention to the handful of in-dev games I'm pledged to, so I have no idea about, well, anything about CoE in terms of the politics and group organizing. It would appear that I'm Mayor/Baron level (whatever that means beyond the obvious).
  22. You would be correct. I am a member of leadership in the kingdom of Kairos, and am heavily involved in the duchy of Cremoria, a duchy I think would be a good fit for many of us. I have reached out to both vessa and damis over the last two months about exactly what you just talked about kero, but have not received any real response yet, though I'm still working on it. I have several of our old pfo guys with me already, and brought on a couple other cotp members such as Amanda. That being said, if anyone wishes to speak to Cyneric, my Duke, and learn about his duchy, feel free to dm me. I am *very* confident Domain Selection I by end of year it very very shortly after.
  23. I'm pledged as a count with Alpha I access, but haven't really been following the development lately, and have no idea of any drama that is currently going on politically. Looking at the maps, I honestly have no preference, so I'm not voting at this point. But maybe we should use the occasion to figure out how we want CotP to be present in the game. I take it most if not all of us are looking at the "Luna"/NA-East server. From the point of view of a united CotP presence I'd say it would make sense to have our counties and baronies (or do we have anyone pledged even higher?) grouped under a single duchy. So if decision time is to come before the end of the year as Fiery expects, it's high time for us to figure out where we want to be and which king and duke we want to pledge fealty to. I think of it as pre-chapter formation, if we miss this opportunity, we probably won't be able to have a united CotP-held area, and what good is a chapter if we are spread all over the map? So do any of you have any preferences (or are already dead set on one particular arrangement)? The only ruler/group that I've remotely had any dealings with is Phyllain, King of Alesia and presumably Duke of Xeilias. While in my time in PFO they were our enemies and running a more evil-themed dictatorship-type "Empire of Xeilias", they seemed to be mostly decent people irl and fairly well organized. If Alesia is intended to be not so totalitarian and evil, I wouldn't mind playing with them. However, I take it Fiery, you're already fairly heavily involved with another kingdom?
  24. Haha no, these were shared by the development team earlier this week. We don't expect alpha 1 to start until probably q1 next year, but we do have Domain Selection coming up, probably before the end of the year, where any titled players will be able to select their starting territories, so that's one of the biggest pre-release events. I know we have a few mayors and at least one count that will need to select territory.
