    Quite a night!!!

Our night begins in the HalfMoon Inn where the adventureres have assembled to begin their assault on the Chamber of Eyes.  They set out, following the directions given to them by the Halfmoons, and make it to the Chamber without incident.

Tagon successfully picks the lock on the Chamber and attempts to sneak in and attack, but isn't quite sneaky enough!  The fight is on, and the goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears just keep coming!  If that wasn't bad enough, the rouge decides to go exploring during combat and opens a whole new can of worms...along with some goblin archers, hobgoblin soldiers, and a couple of human henchmen to boot!

Just when things seem at their worst, Surina the Warlock and her Imp show up, having followed the group into the Labyrinth against Tagons wishes.  Fortunately her blade and her magic are a boon to the group.  More blood is spilled, blades flash, flesh burns, and during the fray both Delmar and Rayena fall to the onslaught of the evil hordes!

Then, just as Krand the Bloodreaver Chief appears to finish off the group, another unexpected guest joins the party.  DIRK THE DARING, a Paladin of Bahamut, sent from the Temple by KC and Draos to aid their former comrades.  Dirk bursts in the door to the Chamber and takes Krand head on!

The pitched battle finally comes to an end with Krand dead and all his Bloodreaver allies laying in pools of their own blood or charred heaps on the dungeon floor.  Rayena and Delmar are healed, and the party expresses their gratitude to both Surina and Dirk for showing up to help when they did.

Surina is a bit standoffish with the party, except for Tagon.  She tells him that she could not in good conscience allow him to assault the Chamber on his own, as she did not trust the dedication of his party members. She accepts no loot from the adventure.

Dirk explains that KC and Draos sent him, and produces one of the six gold and platinum figures of Bahamut that KC took back to the Temple with him as proof.  He further states that Draos told him the party should be easy to find once he made it to Thunderspire...just to follow the trail of bodies.  After enlisting the help of Phaledra and speaking with the Halfmoon clan, it was just a matter of finding the fight...

The Chamber is searched from ceiling to floor, and much loot is discovered...along with some other things...

A note to Krand, signed my Murklemoor Grimmerzuhl, shows that the Riverdown slaves have been sold for 1000gp just two days prior to the parties arrival.

Sadly, while dividing up the loot in the Chamber, Liaden makes a terrible discovery:  his fathers longbow among the weapons recovered.  No sign of his father though...

The adventurers make their way safely back to the Seven Pillar Hall.  Surina parts from the group to go to the Temple, telling Tagon that they will meet again.  Dirk continues with the party back to the HalfMoon Inn.

After selling his loot, Kelimbor pays a visit to Charrak to find out what the slinker knows about Murklemoor Grimmerzuhl and his company.  He is also interested in hearing whether Charrak has learned anything new since their last meeting.  He comes fully stocked with up to 5 gold pieces to pay Charrak for the information.

Kelimbor pays a visit to Charrak

Unfortunately, try as you might, Charrak is nowhere to be found.  Several of the locals claim to have seen him here or there recently, but you search to no avail for the moment.

The only information you have about Grimmerzuhls is from your own visits:  They are a decent sized (for this area) shop which stocks mostly common weapons and adventure items most of the time, and you seem to remember there was always two Duergar at the front counter every time you've been in there.  They were less than friendly to Tagon when he went to buy potions there, and charged double what the Temple did.  The few Duergar you've encountered so far were tough in battle, usually wielded mauls or warhammers, and had a unique racial ability to use thier beard quills as missle weapons.

Our session begins with the adventureres in the Half Moon Inn, discussing their pending inquiry at the Grimmerzuhl Trading Post.  After getting ready, they proceed to the Temple to see if Surina is around.  Phaledra advises them that she has been gone since the previous night, and that she thought Surina might have made another one of her forrays into the labyrinth.

The party then went to Grimmerzuhls, which started out pretty decently with Delmar trying to inquire politely about some gemstones, then ended up with the gemstones being thrown at him and a pitched battle taking place.

In the end, nine Duergar lay dead on the floor along with their leader Kedhira the Hammer Priest. A tenth Duergar tried to surrender but, after the Paladin of the group being lead outside to study some architecture...the poor creature was questioned and executed!

Er...I mean...he tripped on the slippery blood covered floor and knocked his head when he fell down...

Accidents notwithstanding...the group learns that the slaves have been transfered to the Duergar fortress deep within the labyrinth...the Horned Hold!  The adventurers find a note to Kedhira from a duergar named Murklemoor telling him to obtain provisions to feed their new acquisitions.

Our stalwart Heroes of Winterhaven divvy up the loot and decide to go into business with their newly acquired shop in the Seven Pillar Hall (formerly known as Grimmerzuhl's Trading Post).  Just as they are getting ready to leave...Brugg the Enforcer and the Ordinator Arcanis show up!

After a terse and brief questioning by the Ordinator, during which Delmar exhibits some amazing diplomatic skills, the Ordinator decrees that the party now owns the trading post and bids them to continue on their mission...but warns them not to upset the balance of the Hall or cause more trouble than they can handle.  The Ordinator also inquires into the whereabouts of the groups Hedge Wizard, and is told that he has fallen ill.  With that the Ordinator disappears in a flash of light, much the same way he came.  Brugg looks a bit disappointed, but wanders back off into the Hall.

After a rest, the group slips down a secret passage in the back of the trading post formerly known as Grimmerzuhls and into the labyrinth heading to the Horned Hold.  After a journey of about a half a mile, they come to the Hold...and as Tagon moves forth to attempt a bluff with Orcs guarding the gate the party is attacked!  A pitched battle ensues at the portcullis, during which the party finally unlocks the gates and slaughters the Orcs and Duergar within the guard chamber area.

We wait for next weekend with our heroes barricaded in the front guard room trying to get some rest before continuing their assault on THE HORNED HOLD

Liaden has a nightmare where he keeps chasing after his father down a grey-stone tunnel. Every time he reaches a corner, he turns just in time to see his father turn another corner down further.

Every yell seems muffled, every whisper rebounds a thousand fold in his ears...

He keeps running, but always seems to be 1 more second too late.

    While Liaden was dreaming...

Our heroes took a rest in the dungeon, and magically, managed to become fully rested within an hour and NOT get attacked by wandering monsters!

The group set off and encountered more Duergar than you could shake a stick at, including a Duergar Champion...who wasn't much of a champion after all.  Much loot was recovered, as were several magical items...including a rather familiar looking staff with a skull attached to it...:)

After wading through the Duergar our heroes found three missing citizens of the Fallcrest village who had been abducted and sold into slavery over six weeks ago.  The three human males were dirty and malnourished, but otherwise unharmed.  After liberating them and questioning them about the surrounding dungeon, the brave heroes of Winterhaven armed them with kitchen knives, pots, and pans; and sent them off back towards the Seven Pillar Hall!

Risking another rest in the dungeon, they awoke and were getting ready to set off on their continued assault when Surina, Mezzo, and Trellen the Guide showed up!  Surina told Tagon that she had made a forray into the labyrinth on her own, only to return to the Hall and find that the group had already assaulted Grimmerzuhls trading post and set off towards the Horned Hold.  She hired Trellen to help her get to the hold so she could join the party.

Trellen greeted the adventurers as friends and told them that since he had already been paid, that he would gladly accompany them on the rest of their assault here, just not from the front lines.  The party agreed, and they set off across the bridge to the northern most part of the Horned Hold.

After breaching the northern door and engaging some Duergar guarding the area, Trellen fell to the stone floor in agony!  Kelimbor, the ever caring and gentle person he is, kicked Trellen and told him to get up and fight!  Unfortunately...that's exactly what he did...AS A WEREWOLF!  Trellen was apparently triggered to change into his werewolf form at the first sign of combat, which would explain some of his failed expeditions into the labyrinth!

A pitched battle ensued, during which the duergar and the werewolf were vanquished!  The party continued their assault into the hold, encountering Orcs and a deceptively menacing looking ogre who turned out to be a big wuss.

During the battle, Mezzo was hit several times and looked as if he were about to fall before the onslaught.  Surina, crazed and blinded by her devotion to her familiar, rushed into the orcs at great peril to herself in order to save him.  Tagon, in a brave and selfless move, took a hit in the back from the Ogre and several other attacks along the way in order to save the Imp and help Surina!  In the end, the orcs and the ogre lay dead...and Surina and her imp survived the day!

Our stalwart adventureres are once again holed up waiting to finish their assault on the Horned Hold!!!

The party awakens to, magically find once again...that they have become fully rested in a very short amount of time... :nerd

They also awake to a pleasant surprise:  Two rather attractive ladies materialize in the room with them!  Zenobia and Sylly have come from the Temple of Bahaumt to join the party via a teleportation scroll.  They hand the scroll off to Dirk, who reads it and disappears back to the Temple... ::)

Our stalwart band of adventurers sets off to explore the dungeon a bit more, clearing some empty rooms until Zenobia wanders off on her own and straight into an Orc patrol!  A fierce battle ensues during which all the Orcs are dispatched.

Unfortunately, Raeyna decides to try and find a shortcut around to the battle and runs into a group of Wights haunting an old chapel.  Another battle breaks out with Raeyna holding her own until reinforcements can arrive to finish off the undead!

We finish the night with our group hold up in an old barracks area for some more magical rest time... ;)

Hey KC how many weeks would you say we have until we are done with H2?

Dude... we still need to race through the labyrinth and I won't be content till we slaughter the wizards and take the town for our own.

As a matter of fact, I DEMAND it!

Depending on the length of our sessions, maybe a month.

We have to finish the Hold, and there are two or three more encoutners beyond that...they are pretty small though...

Our band of brothers and sisters saw the end of the Horned Hold this night, and have freed MOST the Riverdown captives!!!

Picking up in the barracks room, our group set off and went straight into the waiting arms of Murkelmoor and his minions!  A pitched battle of steel and flame erupted, during which several of our heroes tastes their own blood in their mouths.  In the end, Murkelmoor and his goons lay dead on the floor.

The group then proceeded a little further in the dungeon and discovered the holding area for the Riverdown captives!  Another battle ensued, at the end of which the last Duergar leader Kalmarth surrendered to the party after being beaten and bloodied and backed to the edge of one of the slave holding pits.

Kalmarth was questioned (with Beorns axe under his chin) and told the group that two of the slaves had been sold to the Blackfang Gnolls, who inhabit an area of the labyrinth known as the Well of Demons.  While the group was discussing Kalmarths fate, Surina stepped up to him.  She declared that vile creatures such as he had no right live...slit his throat with her dagger, and kicked him back into the slave pit!  This seemed to excite her Imp a bit...

The ten Riverdown captives present were freed from their bonds and brought out of the pits.  There were also three prospectors who had been caught by the Gnolls wandering the labyrinth.  Gru, a Bloodreaver goblin, was also in the slave pits:  an unfortunate victim of a business negotiation gone wrong in the clan who had been sold to the Duergar by the Bloodreavers!

Gru was trying to weasel his way out of the pits by any means necessary, but got caught in his lies by Tagon...who promptly put a javelin through the top of his skull.  Gru was left rotting in the slave pits still chained to the floor...

The night ended with our heroes escorting the captives out of the Horned Hold (presumably having them carry the ten tons of loot they have acquired...) back up to the Seven Pillar Hall.

Kelimbor:  Upon your triumphant return to the Hall...Charrak excitedly approaches you!

"Half breed!  Charrak look for you long time.  Charrak has note here...for you!  Man in cloak give me note, pay me good to give it to you!"  He says very excitedly as he hands you a parchment.  It reads:

Your actions against the duergar are commendable. I am in a

position of power in the evil organization behind the duergar?s

actions, and I wish to help you defeat my comrades. I have been

seeking a way out of the organization, and I believe you can help

me. Follow the attached map so that we can meet in secret.

Kelimbor says to Charrak, "Why thank you for your efforts in delivering this note to me.  I never forget those who have served me well."  Kelimbor then gives Charrak 3 gold pieces.  "Go now, my friend.  Go with my thanks."

Kelimbor then reads the note and continues on his way.  He tries to pay careful attention to whether he is being tracked, followed, or watched.

After some time out and about, he casually heads to where he believes the rest of the party will be.  When they are all together and in a safe location, he shows them the note.

Where does the map lead?  Does Kelimbor or any other party member know the area around the meeting place.  Kelimbor informs the group that he believes he should go alone to the meeting and see what he can learn.  "Clearly, this person cannot be trusted and has his own agenda.  But the possibility of getting assistance from the inside of the organization is too great to pass up.  It is also too valuable to risk losing because I did not go alone.  If it is a trap, then so be it.  At least we will learn of the treachery before it imperils us all.

Charrak is absolutely thrilled with your tip, and excitedly exclaims that he will be your best friend for life...how ever long or short that may be here...

You do not detect anyone following you.

Surina looks at the map and says "I've been in this general area before, but it's very seculded and off the beaten paths.  A good place for a secret meeting, or an ambush.  As I remember there are some small caves in this area, nothing of great interest.  I will accept the groups decision on this, to go alone or to go as a group; but I say there is safety in numbers..."

Tagon turns to Surina "Surina would it be possible for us to go with Kelimbor but stay hidden in one of the other caves?"

Delmar says to the group, "I like Tagon's plan if it is possible to hide in the caves or somewhere else."

Kelimbor says to the group, "I still think sending others is risking the loss of what could potentially be a big break in ridding this area of the evil which has claimed it, but I can't deny I'd feel better with some backup if it ends up being an ambush or the meeting goes bad."

Surina thinks for a moment before answering..."Yes, there are many little caves and hiding spots in that area, but I'm not sure we'll be able to get close enough to make a difference should hostilites break out.  At least we'd be close enough to resurrect him should things go wrong..."

    • 2 weeks later...

Our adventurers start out from the Seven Pillar Hall to meet the mysterious contact that sent them a message through Charrak.

Kelimbor decides to meet him alone, with our group hiding in the caves a short distance away.  This proves to be fortuitous, as the meeting was a TRAP!  Kelimbor is set upon by a huge Bronze Warder!  The rest of the group makes it to Kelimbor before much damage can be done and the battle is on!  Two Tiefling Heretics come out from hiding in a sneak attack during the battle, but in the end...to no avail.  The Warder and the Heritics are slain in combat.  One of the Tieflings is carrying a satchel with three scrolls in it.

    The first one reads:

I don?t care how you do it, but deal with these adventurers. Take

one of the bronze warders if you must. If they remain in the

Labyrinth, they could disrupt my plans. Once you?ve dealt with

them, deliver their bodies to our gnoll friends, along with the

    enclosed scroll.

    Paldemar

The second, this one bearing a wax seal and the letter P inscribed:

To Maldrick Scarmaker, Exalted Chieftain of the Blackfangs and

Chosen of Yeenoghu: Paldemar offers you the corpses of these

champions as a gift of ongoing friendship, that our arrangement

might continue to be mutually beneficial. May you savor their

    blood.

    Your friend and ally, Paldemar

And the third proves to be a map leading to the Well of Demons!

Our group then sets out to meet the challenge at the Well of Demons.  After an uneventful journey there, Tagon steps into the antechamber to see the carvings on several stone columns come to life...they speak, then turn to stone again:

Greetings, seekers of Baphomet?s boundless glory.

Those who prove unworthy of his attention

Shall be claimed forever as his slaves.

    Those who prove worthy

Shall be granted power beyond mortal reckoning.

    Mask, bell, blade, and tome

The group is set upon by a Phalagar, some Cavern Chokers, and a Ghoul.  Short work is made of these foul creatures and our party continues to explore the dungeon.  A trail of dried blood is found, leading to a closet full of bones.  Tracking the trail back, the party finds a ritual area with a shrine and brass offering plates of dried blood.

Stepping out into the hallway, Tagon triggers a trap!  A huge fiery orange and red ball of energy starts making its way around a circuit in the dungeon, attacking anyone it passes.  Liaden fires a shot at it with his bow, seemingly to no effect!  The party, trying to get out of the way of the sphere, wanders directly into the lair of a YOUNG GREEN DRAGON!  Steel and Fire meet teeth, claws, and acid in a pitched battle raging around a deep dark pit; while the Sphere of Doom circles the area awaiting a victim.  After a long tough fight, Liadens arrow finally brings the dragon down!

Our party plans to stuff and mount his head as a decoration for Bloodbath and Beyond...

The adventurers await more carnage next week!

You forgot one of the major highlights on the night. As the party was fighting the bronze  warden in tight quarters the head strong dwarf twice attempted to bull rush the warden giving the group more room to fight in. And both times fails. While the sly and fast halfing rouge not only manages to push the warden back with a amazing move between him and the all powerful swordmage. But then manages to out maneuver the warden flanking him and causing him to be surrounded by the party.

You can't forget such truly wonderful tatical moves such as that.
